Otopharynx sp."spots" is living in sandy environments in intermediate zones from rocks to sand. They can be found at Nkhomo Reef and southern from Chia Lagoon. This variant can be found near Sani, northern from Chia Lagoon. In an aquarium it is also necessary for them that there are a some hiding places. In the middle of 2017 we bought a group of this species, three males and three females. From these young fish the males are - in this moment - about 10 cm and the females are about 8 cm. Since last year (2016) Thimo had already two females in his tank with a nice size of about 10 cm. At first they stayed in quarantine in a separate tank however meanwhile we devided them in our aquaria so that in Thimo´s tank are swimming one male with three females and in my tank two males with five females, I bought some extra. They are showing themselves quite good in these tanks and the males in both tanks have started to color yet. Up till now the males are very tolerant against their females, probably because they are very young. They are also very tolerant against the other inhabitants in both tanks and they have also been accepted by the other fish in these tanks. In the lake they are mainly feeding themselves probably with everything they find on and in the sandbottom. In the aquarium they are comfortable with any food. They take everything they get offered, like spirulina pellets, mysis, artemia, cyclops and shrimp-peas mix. etc. |
